Juneteenth

Juneteenth 2025, occurring on Thursday, June 19th, will be observed throughout Maryland as a commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. This holiday, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, marks the anniversary of the June 19, 1865, announcement in Galveston, Texas, proclaiming the freedom of enslaved people. In Maryland, various communities and organizations will host events and celebrations, including festivals, educational programs, and gatherings that highlight African American history and culture. Many county governments, recognize this holiday, so many government offices will be closed. Places such as National Harbor, and Annapolis, will also hold celebrations. It is a time for reflection, celebration, and continued progress toward equality.
